Now, I'm not some beauty expert or lifestyle guru or anything like that,
but I find myself getting a lot of compliments, followed by questions, from friends,
my co-workers, and even absolute strangers on my self-confidence and my ability to always
be so happy in my own skin. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do have my days (everyone does)
where I don't feel that great or pretty or peppy, but when that negativity creeps in,
these are some of my favorite things to do (from beauty to fashion to health)
to make myself feel just that little bit better...
1. Cleanse your palette (and your tummy)

As someone who lives with Ulcerative Colitis,
I can honestly say that when my tummy is happy, I'm at
my very best. There's nothing worse than having a flare-up,
and my favorite way to help deal is to make a fresh batch
of cucumber-lemon water. Not only does it leave your
mouth feeling refreshed, but your stomach, too!
2. Treat your skin to something sweet
For a temporary cure outside, continue the at-home spa
treatment with an easy-to-make exfoliate with sugar and honey from
the pantry. Mix the two together in a bowl and then continue to apply to any of
the "dry" areas on your face in a scrubbing fashion. The sugar will help
to slough off all the dead skin, while the honey soothes it!
Don't forget to apply moisturizer after. It will leave
your skin glowing!
3. Try a new recipe

Now that I live on my own, I find that I cook
a lot more for myself. I'm also on a budget, so I try to create
simple, yet delicious dishes that are savory, but also good for me.
I cook a lot on my grill though, so I love to play with Asparagus,
and to try grilling things I normally wouldn't (which is anything
and everything). Pears and pineapples are so tasty
this way! Especially with a side of yogurt!
4. Give yourself a mani

When I'm feeling down, nothing says peppy and pretty
more than a fresh, new manicure! So give your nail beds a makeover
and try a cool design in colors that you normally wouldn't wear.
Who knows, you may find you like it, after all!
5. Breathe life into an old garment

As a fashionista with a budget, I love, love, love me a
good D.I.Y. When I'm bored, or just tired of the same ole same
ole especially, the mood usually catches me just right to get off my behind
and do something for myself. Thus, I end up making over my wardrobe every season.
Its especially hot here in Houston, so I'm always looking for new ways to wear things that
look both stylish, and keep me cool. My favorite D.I.Y right now definitely
has to be the twist-knot dress shown above. I've done it to
several of my old sleeping tees and a sequin dress.
(My own DIY version will be posted soon!)
6. Leave yourself love notes

I've been leaving myself positive affirmations around
my apartment lately, little words of wisdom and inspiring quotes to
live each day by... I find that just seeing the words 'you are beautiful'
scrawled on my bathroom mirror in my favorite pink lipstick
picks me up just that little extra bit!
